Following the advice of my photography-loving boyfriend Ange, I decided to get a Nikon D5300 camera and an AF-S FX NIKKOR 50mm f/1.8G lens!
I’ve been using a Canon EOS M3, a mirrorless camera, for the pictures I post on this blog. While it serves its purpose, I have felt a little limited by it. For one, the selection of lenses isn’t a lot. The buttons on it also feel a little plastic-y and “loose” (lol you can tell I am an expert pHoToGrApHeR), making them a bit of a hassle to press especially when I’m in a hurry.
It’s by no means a terrible camera (even though it doesn’t have a viewfinder smh); it’s easy to carry around and it does have the features of a good vlogging camera, but I’ve discovered that I do more “photography” than vlogging anyway.
I find that the D5300 has a nice, “expensive” weight and a good grip to it. As for the lens, I am in love with its performance so far. It’s really user-friendly, has an autofocus, and takes quality pictures, making it an ideal lens for beginners!
Comparing the prices between my two cameras, the D5300 is actually cheaper especially considering the fact that I bought the much higher quality lens for it separately!
When it comes to the general Canon vs. Nikon showdown, I’m pretty impartial at this point. I’m not extremely knowledgeable about cameras so I’m really not the right person to ask. I’m unsure about why Ange is adamant about supporting Nikon though lol.
With Ange’s help, I’m currently learning how to use the manual settings effectively. This is something I should have started learning earlier, but better late than never!
Hopefully, you guys will be able to see some improvement in the pictures I take and post on this blog.
