Volcàn Poás
All the way back in May, my friends and I visited the Volcán Poás, a 9,000-foot active volcano in Central Costa Rica. It was a relatively clear day and we were very fortunate to have been able to see the volcano in its detailed glory. According to Erika, it can sometimes be too foggy to view or photograph.
I thought Poás was absolutely stunning! Unfortunately, I wasn’t able to bring my DSLR that day, but I’m glad our iPhones (and Adobe Lightroom) helped provide some pictures for this post.
Each ticket cost $15 for foreigners and the journey from the entrance to the viewing area was a 10-to-15-minute walk. Tourists walk to the viewing area in a large group, all wearing hard hats, and are allowed to stay there for 20 minutes. In retrospect, I definitely regret not bringing my camera because the view was amazing.
Colinas del Poás
Right after the volcano, we headed to Colinas del Poás, an adventure park of sorts which offered ziplining dubbed “Tour de Canopy.” It was an exhilarating 10-line course with some hiking in between. To be honest, it was my first time ever to try ziplining and I was initially terrified of the fact that I was going to do more than one.
But after the first couple of lines, I found the experience thrilling, and my concerned thoughts faded away. In fact, my friends even commented that I looked a little too relaxed!
The longest line was 600-meters in length, and while it was mildly scary, I enjoyed every second of it. The views were incredible; plus, the guides that we had were competent, helpful and even playful.
Overall, I absolutely adored this place and would call it one of the highlights of my trip to Costa Rica. I 100% recommend Colinas to fellow travelers, even those who haven’t tried ziplining yet!
